august in the water a.k.a. mizu no naka no hachigatsu (1995)

man i can't get this movie out of my head. i think its one of my new favorites. sogo ishii (director) is always good at composing long cinematic sequences. this is a beautiful psychadelic spiritual sci fi movie. without giving too much away, i can tell you that its about a black hole, 2 meteors hitting earth, a high diving accident, a drought, psychic powers, and a bunch of confused japanese teenagers. the soundtrack is nice and electronic. the movie works really well with or without drugs.
